Overview
Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) — formerly known as the Department of Explosives — is the apex regulatory authority under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. PESO is headquartered at Nagpur and operates a network of regional and sub-circle offices across the country.
PESO administers the Petroleum Act 1934, Explosives Act 1884, Inflammable Substances Act 1952 and a host of related Rules — Petroleum Rules 2002, Explosives Rules 2008, Gas Cylinder Rules 2016, Static and Mobile Pressure Vessel (Unfired) Rules 2016, Calcium Carbide Rules 1987 and Cinematograph Film Rules 1948.
