Great Britain runs its own chemicals regime, UK REACH, separate from EU REACH. GB importers of chemical substances, on their own or in mixtures, at 1 tonne or more a year must register, unless an Only Representative registers for the non-UK manufacturer. UK REACH: Frequently Asked Questions
Is UK REACH the same as EU REACH?
No. UK REACH is a separate regime for Great Britain with its own registrations. EU REACH registrations do not automatically count in GB.
When do I need to register?
Under the 2026 extension: 27 October 2029 for the highest tonnage and high-hazard substances, 27 October 2030 for 100 tonnes or more, and 27 October 2031 for 1 tonne or more.
Can an Indian manufacturer register directly?
Non-UK manufacturers can appoint a UK Only Representative to register on their behalf, so that GB importers don’t have to.
Do article exporters need to register?
Usually not. Most article exporters mainly need SVHC communication and to comply with restrictions.
